IEEE BTS’ Hayes to Moderate BEC Audio Panel

Three-part Broadcast Engineering Conference panel will feature Deep Sen, Fadi Malak and Jeff Riedmiller

IEEE Broadcast Technology Society President William T. Hayes will be moderating a panel at the NAB Show’s Broadcast Engineering Conference. Hayes is director of engineering and technology for Iowa Public Television.

The panel, entitled “Advanced Technology for Audio,” will take place Wednesday, April 20, from 2–5 p.m. in room N235 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. It will feature three parts, each with an expert discussing technology approaches to producing top-notch audio experiences for audiences.

Part one, “Spatial Representations Supporting Immersive Sound Systems,” is presented by Deep Sen, senior director, Multimedia R&D Labs, Qualcomm Technologies Inc. He will be showing attendees three approaches being used in next-generation audio systems.

For part two, Fadi Malak, director, corporate strategy and development with DTS will present, “Immersive Program Interchange.” He will be discussing the challenges with interchange today and the need for standardization.

Lastly, part three, “Delivery and Playback,” will showcase the ins and outs of three next-generation audio codecs; then switching to technologies focusing on enhancing consumer playback experience and some education for different rendering approaches. The presenter for this panel will be Jeff Riedmiller, vice president of the Sound Group in the Office of the CTO at Dolby Laboratories.

The 2016 NAB Show will take place in Las Vegas from April 16–21.
