iHeartMedia Names VP of Programming for D.C.

Plus Bailey has been tapped as APD for WMZQ & West adds PD responsibilities in Huntsville

iHeartMedia has named James Howard as vice president of programming for Washington, D.C. In the same cluster, Ty Bailey has been tapped as assistant program director for country music station WMZQ(FM). Also, iHeartMedia Huntsville says Erich West has added duties as program director for WDRM(FM) in that northern Alabama city.

Howard will work with radio station personalities and program directors to oversee on-air content, music programming, as well as oversee digital and social media for all radio station brands in Washington. He will also serve as the PD for WWDC(FM) and WBIG(FM). He will report to report to Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia’s D.C. Region Jeff Kapugi.

Howard began his radio career with iHeartMedia in 2001 and since then has held programming positions in Orlando, Albany, Atlanta and Tampa. Howard joined the Washington/Baltimore market in 2010 and most recently programmed WWDC and WBIG.

Ty Bailey

Ty Bailey will assist in overseeing the station’s on-air and music programming. She will also report to Kapugi.

Bailey returns to the D.C. area from WXTB in Tampa, Fla., where she most recently served as the PD and morning show host. She previously served in the D.C. Region as the midday host for WWDC and prior to that, as assistant PD for WCHH in Baltimore. She began her career at WZNE in Rochester, N.Y., and is a graduate of Ithaca College.

iHeartMedia D.C. owns and operates WIHT(FM), WASH(FM), WBIG(FM), WWDC(FM), WMZQ(FM).

As PD, West will be responsible for the day to day programming on WDRM, which is part of iHeartCountry. He will continue to serve as the market’s senior vice president of programming and will report to iHeartMedia Huntsville Market President Carmelita Palmer.

West joined the Huntsville market in 2006 from iHeartMedia Macon, Ga., where he served as the operations manager. West began his career at WZLM in Alexander City, Ala., and is a graduate of Auburn University.

iHeartMedia Huntsville owns and operates WDRM(FM), WTAK(FM), WQRV(FM), WQRV(HD2), WBHP(AM) and WHOS(AM).
