King of Xavier FM Returns to Classroom

Dr. Jim King, known as “Doc King” to his listeners, says he is stepping down as director of broadcasting for Xavier University’s WVXU(FM) and X-Star Radio Network on Dec. 31.
He plans to return to the classroom after 28 years in public radio; he is a tenured full professor in the university’s department for communication arts. Vickie Jones, director of administration and public affairs at WVXU, will fill his position.
King came to Xavier in 1976. He joined the university as its first full-time professional manager of WXVU, then a 10-watt part-time FM. The station has since increased power several times to 26,000 watts. He also formed the X-Star Radio Network, which includes seven stations in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.
