LPFM Advocates Anticipate Obama’s Signature

Bill awaits president’s pen

Update: The bill was signed Tuesday; see story.

Low-power FM advocates are hopeful that President Obama will soon sign the Community Radio Act.

The legislation went to the Oval Office for the president’s signature in late December. The bill to drop third-adjacent channel protections in order to fit more LPFMs on the dial joined a few dozen pending items.

The Prometheus Radio Project told Radio World it’s hoping the president soon signs the bill now that the First Family has returned from their Hawaiian vacation.

Over the holidays, the White House began taking comments from the public on the issue.

The FCC will need to revise its LPFM rules and create some new ones to accommodate the changes, we’ve reported.
