For the first time, NAB will honor a Spanish format personality of the year when it hands out the Marconis at the fall Radio Show.
NAB has named the Marconi finalists.
In the Spanish format category, all five personalities work in California or Texas. They are Carlos Alvarez at KLVE(FM) in Los Angeles; Jose Gadea at KLNV(FM) in San Diego; Joaquin Garza of KHHL(FM) in Austin; Eddie "Piolin" Sotelo of KSCA(FM) in Los Angeles; and Hector Velasquez at KDXX(FM) in Dallas.
This is also the first year in which a sports station of the year will be named. The finalists are all AM stations: KFAN in Minneapolis; KTCK in Dallas; KWEB in Rochester, Minn.; WEEI in Boston; and WNML in Knoxville, Tenn.
The awards honoring radio stations and on-air personalities will be announced Sept. 21 in Dallas.
