Mateo Named CBS Radio Senior VP of Communications

She will lead the division’s local radio and digital media efforts

CBS Radio announced the promotion of Karen L. Mateo to the office of senior vice president of the Communications division. The appointment is effective immediately.

The announcement was made by CBS Radio CEO and President Dan Mason, and CBS Corp. Senior Vice President of Communications Dana McClintock.

They credited Mateo for her contributions to the success of CBS Radio and the corporation as a whole. She was the division’s vice president of communications.

Responsibilities in this new role include the communications efforts for CBS Radio and its 130 stations and digital media properties, as well as leading media relations for CBS’ Interactive Music Group, consisting of Radio.com, Last.fm and MP3.com.

Mateo joined CBS Corp. in 1992 as an intern in the Sports Communications Dept. and was hired full-time in 1994. She moved up to become a contributing publicist for “The NFL on CBS” and the 1998 Olympic Winter Games, and served as lead publicist for the U.S. Open Tennis Championships and NASCAR. Mateo was named senior press representative for CBS Sports before joining WCBS(TV), where she was made director of communications.
