National Radio Sales Lead Strong Start to '03

It’s unclear what the threat of war might mean for ad sales; but at least into early 2003, U.S. commercial radio revenue is up compared to last year at this time.
National sales increased 20% in January over the same month last year, and overall radio sales were up 6% for the month.
Those figures are from the Radio Advertising Bureau, which said radio has seen “strong revenue growth” for a year now. Local sales in January were up a “healthy” 3%.
“While the geopolitical climate has created an uncertain environment, radio’s base in the local marketplace, its broad spectrum of advertising categories and its ability to react quickly have positioned the medium well for continued acceleration,” stated RAB President/CEO Gary Fries.
