New DAB Digital Radio Multiplex

New service to cover Liverpool, Wrexham and Chester

MuxCo, a joint venture between digital media services provider Arqiva and digital radio consultancy and services provider Folder Media announced that a new DAB digital radio multiplex would start transmitting later this year, covering Liverpool, Wrexham and Chester in the United Kingdom.

MuxCo won the license for North East Wales and West Cheshire in 2007 and said that while it had taken longer than expected, it is pleased that as of November listeners will be able to tune in to stations on digital radio locally. The deal will allow the existing services to both broadcast in digital quality and be heard by a wider audience.

As a result stations including Dee 106.3 and Juice FM will be available in digital for the first time. Radio Wales, Radio Cymru and Real Radio will also be available through the new transmitter.

“We are excited that some of the area’s favorite stations and some new radio choices are going to be available for listeners across Liverpool, Cheshire and North Wales. Half the country listens to stations on digital radio each week, we are pleased that listeners can now tune in to stations on digital radio locally from November,” said Gregory Watson, managing director at MuxCo.

The transmission contract runs for 12 years.
