New Jersey Station to Pay 10 Grand for Underwriting Penalties

Another noncom gets slapped for going overboard with its underwriting announcements.
The FCC and WVRM, licensee for WCNJ(FM) in Hazlet, N.J. have reached an agreement to settle a case under which the station pays $10,000, payable in installments. The station also agrees to maintain an underwriting review procedure and to conduct periodic training for staff on acceptable underwriting content. The order released by the commission didn’t specify what content the station aired that violated underwriting rules.
In February, the FCC reached a similar settlement with low-power FM station WCEE in Melbourne, Fla.
