New Mobile App for WTOP

Washington’s all-news station also optimizes website for mobile

Hubbard Radio-owned WTOP(FM), Washington has updated its website and released a new mobile interactive app. The new website formats the page appearance to conform to whatever device the user is on.

“News consumption is no longer constrained to a single device or medium,” says WTOP Director of Digital John Meyer. “We need to be able to consistently and seamlessly distribute news, traffic, and weather to people in their cars, on their phones, at their desks and on their tablets.”

Some of the new site features include expanded Living, Sports, Technology and Entertainment sections, an enhanced weather section, more photos and a more streamlined and modern appearance.

Users can more easily interact with the station with the new app, according to the station. Developed by AudioNow Digital, the app, available for iPhone and Android, presents a one-click listening experience; users can listen through their data or voice plan. Links to the WTOP mobile site are provided, as are social media integration, a feed of the latest station headlines and the ability to send photos, audio or video to WTOP.

“The app environment is very conducive to listening, and we hope to take advantage of this environment with this new addition,” adds Meyer.
