Planning for the 2024 NAB Show is ramping up, and Radio World is asking exhibitors about their plans and expectations.

Peter Burk is president of Burk Technology.

Radio World: Peter as we get further into 2024, what is the most important technology issue or decision for radio broadcasters and their businesses?

Peter Burk: Security across all aspects of broadcast infrastructure and operations is a major focus area in the industry. The growth of flexible work environments, resource sharing and cloud-centric services has increased IP traffic into and out of studios, transmitter sites and other broadcast facilities. Continued evaluation of security needs and appropriate application of evolving IT security technologies will be critical for broadcasters throughout 2024.

RW: How would you characterize the audio equipment and service economy right now — how is business and what’s driving the trends?

Burk: The evolution of IT in the broadcast business has created opportunities to enhance station operations by employing new technologies. Modern broadcast equipment is becoming smart, allowing broadcast engineers to accomplish more via remote access. This has had a positive impact on our business.

RW: What news will your company feature at the convention — any new products or services?

Burk: We are continuing to expand our emphasis on services to assist broadcasters with the deployment, configuration and evolution of their remote management capabilities and equipment. Customer installations leveraging Burk’s ARC NOW engineering services and Arcadia cloud-based remote monitoring and control will be highlighted at the show this year.

RW: Are there other important technology trends that you’d like to comment on?

Burk: The expanding role of artificial intelligence in broadcast operations will be an interesting trend to observe at the show this year. We expect to see a range of new AI-based tools promising enhanced programming, new listener experiences, increased efficiencies and reduced operating costs. Broadcasters will need to decide whether and how quickly to invest in these evolving technologies.

RW: What else will you be watching for?

Burk: This year we are looking forward to seeing an increased number of young IT-savvy professionals joining the broadcast engineering ranks. We always like to catch up with our friends and long-time colleagues at NAB.

Burk will exhibit in the West Hall of the LVCC in Booth W3621.
