New Orleans has been a special-case market for Arbitron since Hurricane Katrina.
Now the research company said it will not roll out the Portable People Meter in that city until further notice. It had planned to do so later this year.
The company’s statement was brief. It said it will continue to estimate radio audiences in the market using its diary methodology until further notice.
“The company is not commercializing its PPM service in New Orleans in 2010 in part to help broadcasters in the market continue to rebuild from Hurricane Katrina,” it stated. It did not list other reasons.
“Arbitron will maintain an ongoing evaluation of the market.”
