As reported here first, the National Radio Systems Committee has released its report on whether consumers would notice if AM broadcasters narrow the audio transmission bandwidth from the current 10 kHz to either 7 or 5 kHz.

The NRSC wants input on the report as it revises its AM standards.

The report basically says whether consumers can tell if bandwidth has been narrowed is format-dependent.

The narrowing of bandwidth for AM is recommended for stations that want to go AM IBOC. Some groups, such as Clear Channel, have already done so, but the issue remains controversial. That’s why the NRSC is taking extra steps to reach out to the public to gain wider input on the concept.
