Paul La Camera Named WBUR General Manager

A TV veteran who’s also a Boston native and Boston University alumnus has been tapped to head WBUR(FM) in Boston, a noncommercial station owned by B.U.
Paul La Camera, a 33-year veteran of Boston’s WCVB(TV), has been selected as the GM for WBUR after a five-month search.
La Camera takes over on Oct. 3 from B.U. Vice President Peter Fiedler, who has served as interim GM since last October. He took over last October after former GM Jane Christo announced the Boston University-owned station group was putting up two Rhode Island stations on the block. Christo resigned amid questions of financial mismanagement. The Boston Globe reported after the sale was announced, the Rhode Island attorney general ordered WBUR to turn over financial records for WRNI(AM) and WXNI(AM).
In May, we reported the Rhode Island attorney general would continue his probe into Boston University’s management of WBUR group station WRNI(AM), though the university had called off the sale of WRNI.
Until this month, La Camera was president and general manager of WCVB(TV), a post he assumed in February 1994. Prior to that, he was vice president and station manager of the Boston ABC Network affiliate. Before joining WCVB, he was the director of communications for the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and worked as a reporter for the Boston Record American and Sunday Advertiser.
He and his wife, Mimi, who is president of the Freedom Trail Foundation, reside in Boston, and they have three adult sons.
