He’s been part of Alabama’s broadcast scene for nearly six decades, and deservingly, Terry Harper is this year’s recipient of the Alabama Broadcasters Association‘s Engineer of the Year award.
Harper will be honored at ABA’s 80th anniversary reception at the Auburn Marriott Opelika Resort & Spa on Wed., June 24. Each year, the association recognizes an engineer selected from nominations submitted by colleagues throughout the state.
Harper’s career dates all the way back to 1967 with his start at 580 WABT(AM) — now WACQ — in Tuskegee. Two years later, he joined Auburn University’s Educational Television Division as an audio engineer, according to the ABA Engineering Academy’s Monday Morning Coffee and Technical Notes newsletter.
He retired from Auburn University in 1994 and he has provided contract engineering services across Alabama ever since.
Harper resides in Auburn with his wife, Tammie. They have three sons and seven grandchildren.
His hobbies, according to the ABA, include snow skiing, hunting, fishing and working on the farm.
