Radio France to Conduct DRM Broadcasts Next Week; Mexico to Expand DRM Tests

Radio France will unveil plans for an all-digital distribution network at the Digital Radio Mondiale consortium’s annual meeting in Paris next week.
It will transmit preview DRM medium-wave/AM broadcasts of France Culture audio and multimedia content from March 7-11, to mark the announcement.
DRM is a digital radio technology for shortwave, medium-wave/AM and long wave being tested overseas. Its commercial launch in Europe occurs later this year.
Radio France will host DRM committee meetings at its headquarters. TDF will air the Radio France broadcasts from a transmitting station outside Paris. TDF and Thales have modified an existing 300 kW medium wave solid-state transmitter, from Thales’ S7 family, for the DRM broadcasts.
In Mexico, DRM tests are expanding into commercial radio. The Mexican government plans to begin DRM testing this spring at Radio Centro of Mexico City. Earlier this month, the government authorized DRM testing on a public broadcast network.
