Receiving a Gold Radio Award for Best Coverage of an Ongoing News Story was Radio Sawa’s reporting during the Tahrir Square protests in Cairo. A Bronze Radio Award was also given for the coverage under the Special Report Category.
Radio Sawa received a Silver Radio Award for Best Coverage of an Ongoing News Story with its coverage of the turmoil in Libya, notably the town of Misratah. The correspondent responsible for the efforts was Mohamed Moawad.
