It’s already time to start your planning for 2027 show season.

And the Association of Public Radio Engineers has opened registration and issued a call for presentation proposals for its 27th Public Radio Engineering Conference.

Held on the Thursday and Friday preceding the NAB Show, the conference will take place April 1–2 at the Tuscany Suites and Casino in Las Vegas.

Early-bird registration is available through Feb. 27 at APRE’s website.

Like they have in recent years, organizers offer a virtual attendance option at half the in-person price, allowing online attendees to participate with session speakers.

Registration covers all technical sessions, conference meals and the Thursday evening “Night Owl” session.

Tickets for the annual APRE Awards Dinner on Fri., April 2 at Lawry’s The Prime Rib can be purchased during registration. Attendees can also access special room rates directly through the Tuscany.

Scholarship opportunities

In keeping with its mission to advance the art, science and performance of public radio engineering, APRE announced plans to expand its scholarship program for 2027, setting a goal to double the number of awards distributed last year.

The scholarships assist deserving applicants in covering attendance costs for either in-person or virtual participation. Applications and eligibility requirements are available on the APRE website.

Call for technical proposals

APRE has also opened submissions for 2027 conference presentations.

PREC Presentations Committee Chair Jim Gray said in a release that the association is seeking vendor-neutral, educational presentations that focus on practical solutions, field experiences and emerging broadcast techniques rather than product promotion.

Suggested topic areas include:

  • RF theory and antenna and transmitter innovations
  • Audio over IP, consoles and studio routing
  • Operations, facility virtualization, automation and traffic systems
  • STL design and studio-to-transmitter links
  • SNMP and remote monitoring
  • Digital audio workflows, streaming, podcasting and multimedia services
  • Engineering management, budget planning and regulatory compliance

Presentation slots generally run 30 to 45 minutes, followed by a 10-minute question-and-answer period.  APRE expects selected presenters to appear in person at the Tuscany Suites.

Submissions are open through Jan. 29 or until all program slots are filled. Proposals can be submitted via the online form available on the APRE website.
