The Society of Broadcast Engineers has authorized a new chapter in North and South Dakota.
It’s been given chapter number 63, according to a release. SBE said the closest chapters had been quite a distance from the two states. With as much ground as the Dakotas cover, it expects some members to participate in meetings virtually.
16 SBE members worked together to form the new chapter. The officers selected are as follows:
- Chapter Chair Jake Bechtold, CBRE, DRB, CBNE
- Vice Chair Eli Koppenhaver
- Secretary Mark Heller, CPBE
- Treasurer Dustin Moore
SBE said Mark Borchert will serve as its membership chair and Jake Bechtold will serve as the chapter’s frequency coordinator.
“We constantly strive to serve our members and creating a chapter for the Dakotas helps fill a geographic void,” SBE President Ted Hand said in the release. Mark Heller, a former member of the SBE national board of directors was credited for coordinating the chapter efforts.

To form a new SBE chapter, at least 10 SBE members must meet three or more times, which the Dakota group accomplished earlier this year. They submitted their application for the board of directors to review in October.
The SBE has approximately 4,000 members in 116 chapters. While its local chapters in the U.S. are its hallmark, it has expanded internationally, including with its recent Eastern Europe chapter 148 addition.
