SBE Rechristens Two Awards

Honors will salute early presidents Flanders, Wulliman

The Society of Broadcast Engineers has announced that two of its top awards will be rechristened to honor significant contributors.

The top engineering award will forthwith be known as the Robert W. Flanders SBE Engineer of the Year Award.

The late Bob Flanders was fifth president of the SBE and is considered the one who built the SBE into a professional organization. He was director of engineering at WRTV(TV) in Indianapolis and laid groundwork for the SBE Leadership Development Course.

The lead SBE education award is to be renamed the James C. Wulliman SBE Educator of the Year Award.

Wulliman was director of engineering for WTMJ(TV) in Milwaukee and sixth president of the SBE. He is credited with creating SBE’s engineering certification program. He was its director and chairman for 20 years.

Earlier this year, the society recognized John H. Battison by renaming its SBE Lifetime Achievement Award.
