Jim Peck, a regional sales manager for broadcast equipment distributor/reseller SCMS Inc. and Syracuse, N.Y.-area resident, noticed that not all of local public media organization WRVO’s signals included RBDS data.
Peck then offered a donation of an Inovonics Broadcast Model 703 RDS/RBDS encoder that will be installed at the Utica, N.Y., WRVN transmitter site. The RBDS transmissions will be used to identify the station visually to listeners whose radios or vehicle entertainment systems have the capability.
WRVO Public Media is based at the State University College in Oswego/Syracuse, N.Y., operates 10 separate FM transmission sites covering a large portion of 15 counties in central and northern New York. WRVO participates in regional newsgathering and contact creation organizations and also has a strong online/streaming presence as well.
Peck is a former public broadcaster himself and a current senior member of the Society for Broadcast Engineers. He says he believes in helping broadcasters achieve their branding goals by selling and representing the most effective and appropriate technologies. His sales territory covers New England through Virginia.
