Shell Nominated for BBG

NBCU International president slated for chairman

As rumored, Jeffrey Shell, president of NBC Universal, has been nominated to the Broadcasting Board of Governors to fill Walter Isaacson’s term. Shell has also been nominated to follow Isaacson as chairman of the board.

Shell is currently president of NBCUniversal International, the international arm of commercial broadcasting giant NBCUniversal.

The advocacy group Committee for U.S. International Broadcasting has already issued a critical “Open Letter,” much of which focused on whether Shell would leave NBCUniversal to devote full time to the BBG.

The Broadcasting Board of Governors oversees the Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio and TV Martí, Radio Free Asia and the Middle East Broadcasting Networks (Alhurra Television and Radio Sawa).
