AES Locals Provide a Peek Into the Beatles Legacy

New York and Boston sections plan event with book authors.

The New York section of the Audio Engineering Society will host a presentation about recording the Beatles — on the same stage where the band made its American television debut.

The meeting is Wednesday evening Dec. 3, at the Ed Sullivan Theater at Broadway and 53rd Street. The guests are Kevin Ryan and Brian Kehew, authors of the book “Recording the Beatles.”

Committee member David Bialik told RW that anyone may attend. The event is free but seating is limited. RSVP via e-mail to rsvp-ny@aes.org.

The authors will talk about the techniques and technology used by the engineers, producers and artists responsible for the Beatles recordings; the presentation will include photos of the studios and equipment from Abbey Road at the time.

The talk will be moderated by Malcolm Addey, a recording engineer who started at Abbey Road. AES officials said the event also helps culminate the celebration of the society’s 60th anniversary.

The event is partially funded by contributions from Sennheiser, API, Dale Pro Audio, Tekserve and Solid State Logic.

The AES Boston section will have a similar event on Dec. 2.
