IEEE Broadcast Symposium Set for November

It will be held at the NAB's new headquarters in D.C.

Registration is now open for the 2023 IEEE Broadcast Symposium, hosted by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Broadcast Technology Society. This will mark the first IEEE BTS event since 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic began.

The symposium will be held at the National Association of Broadcasters’ new headquarters in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, Nov. 14, and Wednesday, Nov. 15. The 11-story, 118,000-square-foot building at 1 M Street Southeast in Washington was completed in 2022. [See our photo feature on it.]

IEEE BTS Conference Chairman Jim Stenberg said this year’s keynote speakers are from “distinctly different areas of engineering.” On Tuesday, a joint IEEE/Association of Federal Communications Consulting Engineers (AFCCE) luncheon will feature IEEE President-Elect Tom Coughlin, as well as the announcement and awarding of the Jules Cohen Engineering Achievement Award. Stenberg said the keynote speaker for Wednesday will be announced soon.

The symposium will offer a variety of technical sessions over the course of two days — to include topics like commonsense cybersecurity, ATSC 3.0 and public broadcasting and supporting legacy broadcast systems.

“This symposium continues to provide technically-focused information for broadcast technical leaders in a forum where they can feel free to ask questions, gain deeper understanding and challenge conventional wisdom,” said Stenberg.
