Näkövammaisten Keskusliitto, the Finnish federation of the visually impaired, has incorporated Solutions Radio technology into a trial audio delivery project.
The trial delivery, based on the DAISY standard (ANSI/NISO Z39.86-2005) for the transcription of books into an audio format, incorporates PC-based solutions and uses the Solutions Radio ORIONWebbox as part of the hardware reading system.
The ORIONWebbox online player, which is designed for use by those who have little computer experience, is able to access both DAISY and non-DAISY content.
Näkövammaisten Keskusliitto intends to assess both the functionality and the cost-effectiveness of the system, and schedules completion and evaluation by August 2008.
