Clear Channel Radio and Best Buy said they raised $470,000 for Toys for Teens through online and on-air auctions of Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii consoles.
All money will go directly to the charity, according to a spokesman for the broadcast group. Toys for Teens is a program of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Consumers were invited to log in and tune in to Clear Channel stations to bid. Stations auctioned a total of 739 Playstation 3s and Nintendo Wiis gaming consoles in December; the auction drew 3,900 registered online auction bidders and 5,000 online bids.
Bid prices included $3,100 for a Playstation 3 from listener in Orlando and $3,000 for a Nintendo Wii listener in Boise.
