Will the noncom/Channel 6 fault line erupt into a bigger fracas?
The Business Review reported last week that Freedom Communications is objecting to 35 non-commercial radio stations proposed for upstate New York and New England, asking the FCC to block stations proposed within a 75-mile radius of Schenectady, where it operates WRGB(TV).
The area affected includes Albany, Troy, Coxsackie, Schoharie, Esperance, Gloversville, Sharon Springs and several other communities in New York, western Vermont and western Massachusetts, the publication reported. Applications were part of the recent noncom window.
It quoted the chief engineer of the TV station saying some applicants tried to minimize interference but the owner decided to issue a blanket objection, saying up to 25,000 people could have their TV reception impaired.
