Two More Counties Sign Up for Alert FM

GSS system uses FM subcarriers and other channels for alerting

Alert FM said two jurisdictions have added its emergency notification system.

Tipton County in Tennessee purchased it through the Memphis/Shelby Urban Area Security Initiative. Separately, Marshall County, Miss., has signed up.

Four stations are participating so far in Tipton County/Memphis; five are taking part in Marshall County. The company says some 125 radio stations are on its system, many in Tennessee and Mississippi.

“Residents in both counties will have the potential to receive emergency information from their local emergency management agency as well as the National Weather Service severe weather warnings through personal, portable Alert FM receivers,” said Jim Lowery, the GM of Global Security Systems.

Alert FM is an aggregator of emergency information with multiple contact paths for mass notification. Emergency info is delivered via the data subcarrier of FM radio stations, SMS and e-mail.
