Upcoming FEMA IPAWS Webinar Offers Big Picture

The next series of FEMA webinars will be technical in nature

FEMA will conduct an informational webinar on Wednesday to discuss the upcoming Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) regional test, which is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 17.

The 30-minute webinar is for broadcast and cable management as well as emergency management representatives in the six states that will be participating in the regional test. The session will offer a nontechnical overview of IPAWS and how it will be used to activate emergency alert systems in the states of Arizona, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wisconsin.

More webinars are to be held over the next few weeks, and the next two will be technical in nature. FEMA will conduct the two technical webinars for station engineers on Oct. 28 and on Nov. 5.

Heading into 2016, FEMA plans to continue regional National Periodic Testing (NPT) throughout the first half of the year. New FCC rules regarding EAS participant action upon receipt of an NPT message will go into effect July 30, 2106.
