Should a new radio tower be allowed on Florida’s Upper Sugarloaf Key?
Locals say no and so far they’ve been able to block it. But now the radio owner is pushing back, according to an account by website keysnews.com.
Bob Holladay and Florida Keys Media own “U.S. 1 Radio” — WWUS(FM) — and several other stations; he recently moved their studios to Sugarloaf Key and wants to put up a 199-foot tower to serve them. The county planning commission said no last fall. “The planning commissioners relied on a county rule that states that a new tower can only be erected if the current radio station’s tower and operations are unsuitable,” keysnews.com reported.
Holladay has appealed to a state hearing entity.
