There were 21 more FM educational stations and 22 more translators and boosters on the air at the end of 2004 than there had been three months earlier, according to FCC statistics.
There are now 2,533 educational FMs, and 3,890 FM translators/boosters.
The number of AM stations increased by four, to 4,774, while the commercial FM category added one, to 6,218, for a total of 13,525 U.S. broadcast radio stations (not counting boosters/translators).
