Virgin Radio Goes 3G

Virgin Radio Goes 3G

Reuters reports that Britain’s Virgin Radio is offering a service that will let listeners from around the world tune in to the station on high-speed mobile phones.
“The move comes as radio, the world’s oldest broadcast medium, seeks out high-tech ways to reach new listeners including satellite services, digital radio and Internet broadcasting,” it wrote.
Virgin Radio said users with mobile phones capable of accessing high-speed third-generation or 2.5-generation networks will be able to receive Virgin Radio, Virgin Radio Classic Rock and Virgin Radio Groove after downloading a free piece of software from the station’s Web site (http://www.virginradio.co.uk).
Virgin Radio can currently be heard on FM in London and on AM radios around Britain. It is a popular presence online as well.
