Voice of America has turned 60.
President Bush spoke at a ceremony commemorating the anniversary and spoke about the VOA’s contributions to free information through the Cold War, and noted the new Middle East Radio Network, which will offer music, news and information in Arabic.
VOA broadcast the ceremony over radio, TV and the Internet in nine languages. The VOA broadcasts in 53 languages to most of the nations on the planet, with an estimated audience of 94 million people. Its first broadcast was over the radio in 1942 in German.
