WAMU Tests Live SAC Broadcast

American-University-owned WAMU(FM), Washington threw the switch on its second digital channel and broadcast the ceremony live.
“Those of us who are music fanatics thank WAMU for being a pioneer,” said FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein in a ceremony that also included District of Columbia Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton and Rep. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland’s 8th District.
Ibiquity Digital President/CEO Bob Struble told attendees to expect four more HD Radio receives to be on the market this year. Kenwood and Panasonic have HD Radios for sale now.
WAMU is the first official non-commercial station in Washington to go digital, commercial Howard University-owned WHUR(FM) went digital in January and noncom WETA(FM) is an Ibiquity test station.
WAMU officials haven’t yet decided what the programming on the supplemental channel will be.
