The owner of WCIS(AM), Morganton, N.C., hopes to return to air next week with a used transmitter.
That’s after copper thieves destroyed the transmitter and damaged the building of the Class D nondirectional daytimer.
Owner John Whisnant tells WSOC(TV) the stolen copper is worth a few hundred dollars, however the estimated damage of the transmitter and the building is some $50,000.
“I was devastated — It’s December, our biggest month.”
The damage has impacted others as well, interrupting the Christian-formatted station’s charity coat drive.
