For well over 2,000 Sundays, WFUV(FM) has aired “The Big Broadcast” religiously. The big band pop and jazz show seeks to re-create the atmosphere around “big broadcast”-style variety programs from the 1920s and 1930s.
On Sunday, Jan. 6, it will celebrate its 40th anniversary, 8 p.m.–12 midnight.
Long-time host Rich Conaty created the program after a host for a program that he produced failed to show up. Conaty was a Fordham University freshman at the time. He’s been doing it ever since.
The ruby anniversary program will feature an interview with Connie Boswell of the singing Boswell Sisters from 1974. Conaty will be replaying other memorable moments from four decades-worth of programs including interviews with Cab Calloway, Arthur Tracy, song-writers and other personalities from the era.
