The FCC has reaffirmed a fine against WRSJ(AM) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, for $15,000 for antenna violations.
The agency cited the station for failing to post its tower registration number, failing to have obstruction lighting and failing to notify the commission of an ownership change for the tower.
The station argued the agency approved the sale of the station and therefore should have known the tower and antenna were part of the deal. The FCC countered that this isn’t always the case and it needs specific notification of an ownership change for a tower and antenna.
The bulk of the fine was for the lighting violation. The station GM and engineer told an FCC inspector the structure didn’t need lighting because it was only 153 feet tall. The FCC argued that it was more than 222 feet tall and did need tower lighting.
The station has 30 days to pay.
