Joseph D’Angelo, vice president of Advanced Services for iBiquity Digital Corp., talked up telematics using the HD Radio distribution platform at the Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress, which ends today in New York.
Real-time traffic services and location-based information services are rolling out now using the HD Radio platform, D’Angelo told attendees from his presentation about using HD Radio technology and protocols to deliver “infotainment” and telematics content. D’Angelo’s presentation was part of a technology session moderated by Rudolf Meitzner from the Car 2 Car Communication Consortium, created to establish a European industry standard for smart vehicle communications systems based on wireless LAN components.
D’Angelo reviewed HD Radio technology’s capabilities such as program service data, multicasting and iTunes Tagging as well as the HD Radio Data Transport Protocol and encryption scheme for conditional access services.
