Emergency alerting will be a topic of discussion in the Orban Labs booth at NAB Show New York this week.
Sage Alerting Systems, working with Orban Labs and DNAV, will offer a demo of EAS alerting implemented as add-in software running in an Orban processor, reducing equipment and cabling requirements at a station.
“For the demo, the Sage next-generation EAS software is hosted in an Orban Optimod 5950 HD processor,” the companies said in a release.
“The demonstration shows an advanced version of Sage’s popular easy-to-use web interface as well as all other EAS functions a radio user needs, including IPAWS CAP reception and RWT generation. The demonstration will include generating and receiving EAS alerts.”
Harold Price, president of Sage Alerting Systems, said, “This is the first full demonstration of the capabilities detailed in the National Association of Broadcasters petition to the FCC last year, to allow broadcasters to support EAS in software rather than dedicated EAS hardware.“
Orban Labs Worldwide VP of Sales Mike Pappas said that if the FCC allows such implementations of EAS software hosted in a processor, Orban plans to offer it right away.
The Orban Labs booth is 439.
