Propellerheads Updates and Debuts

Reason is upgraded and Record is replaced

Propellerheads has issued a big upgrade to its Reason music creation software.

Propellerhead Software is based in Stockholm, Sweden; it develops music software applications.

Reason 6 marks the addition of traditional audio recording and editing tools for the Reason platform, making it effectively a DAW.

Also new are effects such as Pulveriser (compressor/distortion pedal/modulator); The Echo (stereo echo/tape echo); and Alligator (Propellerheads calls it a “three-band pattern gate for complex rhythmic texturing”). Reason 6 also adds 64-bit compatibility.

The company also has introduced Reason Essentials, a replacement of the Recorder program, is “distilled from the core of Reason.” It offers basic recording, editing and mixing tools along with many of Reason’s music creation tools such as drum machines, loop players, samplers, sequencers, processors and effects along with onboard MIDI instruments (some courtesy of Line 6).

Reason 6 and Reason Essentials officially will be available on Sept. 30. Prices: Reason 6 – $449 (upgrade $169) and Reason Essentials – $299.
