The Merlin IP codec from Tieline delivers bidirectional stereo and full-duplex communications for point-to-point and remote broadcast connections over wired and wireless IP networks.
Suitable for studio or remote truck installations, the 1RU rack mount IP Merlin is designed to connect to Tieline IP codecs and via the Report-IT Enterprise application; it can also support two simultaneous IP connections with smartphones.
Initially available as an IP-only codec, Merlin in future will support connection over ISDN and POTS using interchangeable connection modules added to the rear. This, says the company, will permit broadcasters to connect over various networks and to transition from older networks into IP networks as required.
The Merlin uses Tieline SmartStream IP technology, which delivers compatibility across IPv4 and IPv6 network infrastructures and provides network management tools for responding to variable conditions over lossy IP networks, especially in situations when QoS is unavailable.
Features include dual redundant power supplies, audio silence detection and network backup via dual Gigabit LAN ports. The Merlin features automated network failure detection, which provides switching to a backup IP LAN connection, or alternative transport.
