Amazon Prime Adds Spoken Word Programming With Audible Channels

Company adds new original content offerings

SEATTLE Amazon Prime members now have access to new spoken word content through a new integration with subscription audio content provider Audible, the companyannounced.

Customers who subscribe to the Prime service which already offered a bundle of video and music content and more, in addition to shipping benefits now have free access toAudible Channels, a new short-form digital audio service and approximately 50 rotating audiobooks, according to the press release.

Also, like its Prime Music counterpart, Audible Channels also provides human-curated, topical Audible Playlists. Additionally, Prime Music already allowed users to download playlists and songs, enabling users to save on data by downloading content when only on Wi-Fi, as opposed to streaming.

The content is available to Prime members after they download the Audible app for iOS, Android or Windows 10.

Audible Channels, which includes the Amazon subsidiarys answer to podcasts, was introduced earlier this year, offering a slate of original content. Those who are not Prime members and do not wish to become one can subscribe separately to Audible Channels for $4.95 per month.

However, the service appears to be a way to hook users on the original content and motivate them to upgrade to the full Audible experience by only offering a taste of its audiobook and original programming libraries.

Note that the full version of Audible already includes content from broadcasters and it is also available via the iTunes store and on international websites.
