OSLO�Sales of DAB+ radios in Norway grew 30.5% in 2014 in comparison to 2013. 667,000 radios sold, which is a new record, according to Norway�s electronics and electronics services trade foundation. The previous record was set last year, with sales of 511,000 units.
Despite the sales figures, many consumers there are still buying FM-only radios. Digital Radio Norway is encouraging sales personnel in stores to be clear with consumers in Norway�FM radio has a limited lifespan there, and will start to be shut-down as early as 2017.
Elektronikkbransjen counted 112,000 sold DAB+ radios for cars in 2014, including those in new cars. There were about 144,000 new cars sold in Norway last year. Electronics Industry figures do not include sales of adapters, which are used to upgrade FM radios to DAB+, but information from other markets suggests that last year about 55,000 adaptors were sold, according to Radio.no.
