Harris Scores French order for DMB transmitters

Nov 18, 2009 5:17 PM

Harris Corporation says it has sold nine DMB 670 multimedia transmitters to French network operator and DAB/DMB equipment manufacturer VDL to support the imminent rollout of digital radio in the cities of Nice, Marseille and Paris.

The transmitters, which meet all national DAB, DAB+ and DMB standards, will provide multiplex carrier service for French broadcasters making the transition to digital.

According to a Harris press release, the company’s DMB 670 transmitters were successfully tested for compatibility with VDL head-end equipment, assuring compatibility for current and future international deployments of both technologies.

Yannick Andre-Masse, CEO of network operator and technology vendor VDL, said his company expects the first multiplex transmissions to commence sometime in the next few months.
