Radio Pakistan Plans Switch to DRM

The present AM and FM transmitters of Radio Pakistan can be made compatible to this technology with few changes

ISLMABAD, Pakistan ��Radio Pakistan has started work to convert its transmission systems to DRM technology in order to make its broadcasts �clearer and cost-effective� according to radio.gov.pk.

Director General of Radio Pakistan Khurshid Malik visited the project at Broadcasting House in Islamabad on Monday.� He was briefed about progress on the introduction of the technology.

The present AM and FM transmitters of Radio Pakistan can be made compatible to this technology with few changes, and in so doing, can broadcast three channels from a single transmitter, which �will prove cost-effective,� according to the same article.� DRM enables listeners to get access to text services as well.

Malik emphasized the need for improving the content of programs, besides just introducing modern technology, to cater the need of all segments of society.
