Samsung Announces Plans to Unlock FM Chips in Next Batch of Phones

The largest Android handset maker and joins fellow manufacturers, major mobile carriers

SEOUL � Samsung is the latest mobile handset manufacturer to unlock the FM chip in upcoming smartphone models in the US and Canada, Tagstation announced this week.

This move will enable Samsung users to continue to connect directly with the NextRadio app, listen to local stations, and use less battery and less data than streaming apps.

Samsung is the largest Android handset maker and joins fellow manufacturers LG, Motorola and Alcatel in this decision, as well as mobile carriers AT&T, Boost Mobile, Cricket, MetroPCS, Sprint, T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular.
