CALABASAS, Calif. Xperi Corp. said it will integrate ACRClouds music recognition technology into its DTS Connected Radio platform, which is expected to launch later this year.
The DTS Connected Radio platform is a hybrid radio system that combines over-the-air analog/digital AM/FM radio with IP-delivered content. The company has previewed the platform at broadcast industry events over the past year or so.
According to Xperi, Beijing-based ACRCloud has indexed more than 40 million tracks in its music database. Once implemented, that technology will identify music playing on radio stations in vehicles and will help to detect and deliver music metadata, in addition to that which local stations transmit and IP-delivered content. The DTS hybrid radio projects are the future of radio consumption in cars, ACRCloud co-founder Tony Li said in the announcement.
Xperi General Manager for Automotive Jeff Jury said the addition of music recognition technology is part of the companys quest to ensure that the best broadcast radio experience is occurring in the vehicle.
We are launching the DTS Connected Radio system in 2018, Jury said in an emailed statement. Specific car companies will be launching their products based on their own planning cycles, and we anticipate those launches occurring in the late 2018/2019 time frame.
Xperi/DTS is also the parent of HD Radio. In addition to automotive and broadcast, its technology sectors include such areas as premium audio, computational imaging, mobile computing data storage and 3D semiconductor interconnect and packaging.
