Effective Date for AM DA Rule Changes in Limbo
The FCC now says its AM directional antenna rule changes will not take effect Dec. 5.
The Report & Order released in August simplifies traditional proof of performance requirements for directional AMs. The agency is designating moment method modeling as a more efficient substitute for traditional directional AM station field strength proofs, which can be time-consuming and expensive. The agency modified its rules to better protect nearby AMs from nearby tower construction and modification.
Portions of the rule were to take effect Dec. 5 and others would need to wait for approval by the Office of Management and Budget, according to a Federal Register notice from November.
The FCC is now correcting that information, and says the commission will publish a document in the Federal Register announcing when the entire rule change becomes effective.
