Radio stations, including those in Pennsylvania, that executed an interim license with Global Music Rights covering the period between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, are now being offered an additional six-month license, CommLawBlog reports.
This license will run from Oct. 1 through March 31, 2018, and offers the same terms, at the same monthly price, as the original nine-month license, hopefully allaying some fears about what could happen if the litigation isn’t over by the end of September or if the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania does not grant the RMLC’s Motion for Preliminary Injunction to require GMR to offer stations interim licenses for the duration of the litigation.
The Radio Music License Committee says the additional six month license will apply to all U.S. commercial radio stations who have an existing interim license and says any otherwise-eligible Pennsylvania stations should contact the RMLC if they are not offered a license extension.
Note that stations must:
- Sign the license extension form and return it to GMR, which can be done online, (who has offered an online submission form to facilitate this process) by Sept. 30.
- Make first payment under the license extension by Oct. 31
