NPR Calls in Reinforcements for All Things Considered

Martin takes over weekend host duties; weekdays, Shapiro and McEvers join Cornish and Siegel

Ari Shapiro and Kelly McEvers will join National Public Radio flagship evening drive-time show “All Things Considered” as two additional hosts. Michel Martin will also take on a new role as the program’s weekend host. The changes take effect in September.

Vice President of News Programming and Operations and former longtime executive producer of “All Things Considered” Chris Turpin also explained, “We are evolving the structure and sound of All Things Considered to engage current and new audiences and make the most of the incredible talent we have on staff.”

Together with current hosts Robert Siegel and Audie Cornish, the new host lineup is intended to help NPR “sound like America and the communities we cover,” according to NPR Senior Vice President of News and Editorial Director Michael Oreskes.

Foreign correspondent and current National Desk Correspondent McEvers will take on the role of weekday host based at NPR West, inaugurating a bicoastal presence for the drive time program. McEvers previously ran NPR’s Beirut bureau, where she earned multiple awards for her 2012 coverage of the Syrian conflict.

London Correspondent Ari Shapiro will return to Washington to join Cornish and Siegel in the studio weekdays. Shapiro’s NPR resume also includes stints as an intern and NPR White House correspondent.

Martin will become the new weekend host, building on her reporting and interviewing experience as former host of “Tell Me More” and across print and TV, including reporting for ABC News. “Michel Martin: Going There,” her live event series, will continue.

Carline Watson, former executive producer of “Tell Me More,” will become “All Things Considered”’s weekday executive producer. NPR Producer and Editor Kenya Young will become the weekend show’s executive producer of “All Things Considered;” she has been an acting supervising editor of “Morning Edition.”
